If we want to help and be truly effective, we need to pay attention to how parents are feeling because it is how they feel, not what we say that makes the biggest difference.

In my own research with parents in the parenting workshop, I found that parents who reported higher shame also felt less engaged and less receptive, and did poorer on a post-workshop test than parents who felt little shame. So how do we mitigate shame in parents?
